When I open the C4D file I get an error message saying ‘Picture viewer cannot open the file’ and there doesn’t seem to be anything in the scene. I’m using R11.5, does it require R12?

Don't know about 11.5, but you shouldn't have got an error from picture viewer. How did you install preset (caligofx.lib4d) and what happens when you open both .c4d files?

I went the C4D route after about four years with blender. I found C4D very easy to learn and work with using AE.
